What Is BDSM furniture? 

BDSM furniture is furniture specifically designed for BDSM play. Its main purpose is to help hold bodies in specific positions more comfortably than improvising on a bed or couch, and it can support things like restraining the submissive in a certain position, inflicting pain in a certain way, making certain positions more comfortable or intentionally uncomfortable, and improving access to certain body parts. 

Many pieces also include attachment points, like D-rings, rails, or bars, so you can use cuffs, straps, or rope more easily.

It also helps to know what BDSM furniture isn’t. It isn’t automatically extreme, since many items are beginner-friendly. And it doesn’t require a (home) dungeon, there are discreet options that look like normal furniture, including benches, and chairs.

Different Types of BDSM Furniture

The variety of different BDSM furniture is large and incredible, but here are the most common ones. 

BDSM Bed

Description: A BDSM bed looks like a sturdy, often wider-than-average bed designed with play in mind. It usually has a strong frame to minimize movement and squeaks. Description: A sex pillow is a firm, angled pillow, often wedge-shaped or ramp-like, made from dense foam with a smooth, easy-to-clean cover. It looks like a normal cushion at first, but the shape is designed to lift hips, support knees, or tilt the pelvis into a more open position. Some sets come as modular pieces you can stack to change height and angle.

Use Examples: Great for doggy, missionary, cunnilingus and other positions

Medical Chair / Gynecology Chair

Description: A medical or gynecology chair looks like a padded exam chair with an adjustable backrest and a built-in leg positioner, usually with stirrups on both sides. Discreet vs Non-Discreet 

Discreet pieces are designed to look like normal home furniture while still functioning as BDSM furniture. Examples include BDSM beds, sex pillows, and sex couches, and they’re ideal for bedrooms in your house or apartment because they blend into everyday spaces.

Non-discreet pieces, on the other hand, are obviously BDSM furniture, such as cages, spanking benches, an St. Andrew’s Cross, a BDSM chair, or a bondage bench. Because they’re so clearly BDSM, they’re best suited for private BDSM rooms or commercial dungeons.

Useful Accessories

Once you own your first piece of BDSM furniture, you’ll realize quickly that a few basic accessories can go a long way and open up a lot of new possibilities.

Almost all BDSM furniture, aside from sex couches and sex pillows, has anchor points or carabiners where you can attach accessories. Common options that work with these attachment points include ankle and wrist cuffs, chains, and shibari rope. Carabiners are also useful on their own, since they help connect things like chains and wrist cuffs, and a spreader bar can be another great accessory that works well with some furniture setups.
