A Guide On BDSM Furniture

What Is BDSM furniture?
BDSM furniture is furniture specifically designed for BDSM play. Its main purpose is to help hold bodies in specific positions more comfortably than improvising on a bed or couch, and it can support things like restraining the submissive in a certain position, inflicting pain in a certain way, making certain positions more comfortable or intentionally uncomfortable, and improving access to certain body parts.
Many pieces also include attachment points, like D-rings, rails, or bars, so you can use cuffs, straps, or rope more easily.
It also helps to know what BDSM furniture isn’t. It isn’t automatically extreme, since many items are beginner-friendly. And it doesn’t require a (home) dungeon, there are discreet options that look like normal furniture, including benches, and chairs.
Different Types of BDSM Furniture
The variety of different BDSM furniture is large and incredible, but here are the most common ones.
BDSM Bed
Description: A BDSM bed looks like a sturdy, often wider-than-average bed designed with play in mind. It usually has a strong frame to minimize movement and squeaks. Additionally, most have integrated anchor points, such as posts, rails, or discreet attachment loops, so ropes, chains and hooks can be attached. Some even have a pillory built into the bed end. And while many BDSM beds end up looking like a normal bed at the first glance, you will be able to find frames that look very kinky and obvious.
Use Examples: Use cuffs to attach wrists and ankles to all 4 corners, fully stretching them out; Integrate the bed into full body shibari bondage; Bend sub over the bed and restrain their hands to 2 bed posts

Spanking Bench
Description: A spanking bench is a low, sturdy bench with thick padding and a raised, angled surface that bends the submissive over the bench and restrains her arms and legs to the furniture. Many models include handles, ankle supports, and built-in attachment points like D-rings along the sides. It’s designed to keep the body stable and comfortable enough for longer sessions while the ass stays presented and easy to access.
Use Examples: Perfect position for flogging, impact play, teasing, vibrators, sex

St. Andrew’s Cross
Description: A St. Andrew’s Cross is a tall, X-shaped frame designed to restrain someone spread-eagle, usually standing upright on a base. It typically has multiple attachment points along the arms and legs so cuffs, straps, or rope can be adjusted for different heights and body types. Many versions are padded at the chest, hips, or wrists to keep the position bearable while still feeling exposed.
Use Examples: Great for flogging, spanking, whipping, sex from behind
Sex Swing
Description: A sex swing is a suspended harness seat made of strong straps, usually with a padded bottom and support straps for the back, thighs, or arms. It hangs from a ceiling mount or freestanding frame and lets the body float, keeping weight off the legs while holding someone in an open, supported position. Many swings have adjustable stirrups or cuffs, making it easy to fine-tune angles and keep someone spread and exposed.
Use Examples: You can lie on your back or lie on your stomach → most swings allow both; comfortable to lift and spread the legs of the person lying in the sex swing

Bondage Chair
Description: A bondage chair is a heavy, padded chair with an adjustable recline, built more like a piece of equipment than normal furniture. It often comes with raised armrests, wrist cuffs, and leg supports that keep the legs lifted and open. The frame is usually metal or hardwood so it stays stable even when someone is fully restrained and squirming.
Use Examples: Great for doctor patient roleplay; Interrogation roleplay; Penetration

Sex Couch
Description: A sex couch is a padded, sculpted lounge with curved sections and different heights, made to support bodies at specific angles. It usually looks like a modern chaise or modular sofa, but with firmer foam and an easier-to-clean surface like vinyl, leather, or coated fabric. The main feature is how it props hips, lifts legs, and keeps someone comfortably “set” in a position without constant effort.
Use Examples: Great for comfortable doggy, prone bone or BJ position, Ideal for spanking and flogging

Pillory
Description: A pillory is a sturdy frame with locking openings for the neck and wrists, usually made from thick wood or metal and set at standing or kneeling height. Once closed, it holds the upper body in place and creates that instantly humiliating, on-display posture.
Use Examples: Person is in a bend over position; Mouth and ass is revealed; great for sex, spanking and flogging; Can use a spreader bar to keep their legs apart
Shibari Frame / Rack
Description: A shibari frame (or rack) is a freestanding structure, often an A-frame or four-legged rig, with a strong top bar designed to take rope load. It’s usually made from metal and includes hanging points like rings, carabiners, or eye bolts along the top beam. It's built to hold a body in the air without wobbling.
Use Examples: Use shibari rope to tie and suspend a person to the frame; Can also attach both hands to each frame corner and spread their legs with a spreader bar.
Spreader Bar
Description: A spreader bar is a rigid bar, usually metal, with attachment points at both ends (and often in the center) for cuffs, rope, or clips. You either attach both legs or both wrists to the two ends of the bar and once it’s locked in place it forces the body open and takes away the ability to close legs or bring arms together. It can be short for wrists or long for ankles, and many versions are adjustable or collapsible for storage.
Use Examples: Great tool that can be combined with shibari, other BDSM furniture, sex positions and so much more

Sex Pillow
Description: A sex pillow is a firm, angled pillow, often wedge-shaped or ramp-like, made from dense foam with a smooth, easy-to-clean cover. It looks like a normal cushion at first, but the shape is designed to lift hips, support knees, or tilt the pelvis into a more open position. Some sets come as modular pieces you can stack to change height and angle.
Use Examples: Great for doggy, missionary, cunnilingus and other positions

Medical Chair / Gynecology Chair
Description: A medical or gynecology chair looks like a padded exam chair with an adjustable backrest and a built-in leg positioner, usually with stirrups on both sides. It’s often made with a heavy metal base and wipe-clean upholstery, giving it that cold “clinic” vibe even in a dungeon setting. The main feature is how it locks the body into a reclined, open-leg posture with very little wiggle room.
Use Examples: Doctor patient roleplay; vulva examination
BDSM Metal Cage
Description: A BDSM cage is usually a rigid metal-bar enclosure with a lockable door, sized for someone to sit, kneel, or curl up inside.
Use Examples: During pet play the pet can sleep and eat in the cage; For Humiliation; In Puppy Play the pups might wear a BDSM Collar like a dog with a bowl of food inside the cage
BDSM Bench
Description: This BDSM bench is a solid wooden base with a thick leather-padded top and a lower padded step that lifts the legs. Two upright posts at the sides hold ankle cuffs, so the legs can be kept in place while the person lies on their back.
Use Examples: legs are exposed for flogging, sex, orgasm control

Queening Chair
Description: A queening chair is a sturdy chair or throne with an opening in the seat (where the vulva is), built specifically for facesitting. There is usually a second leather padding below the throne for the head of the person performing cunnilingus.
Use Examples: The queen / dominatrix / mistress sits comfortable on the chair while the submissive is below her eating them out

Discreet vs Non-Discreet
Discreet pieces are designed to look like normal home furniture while still functioning as BDSM furniture. Examples include BDSM beds, sex pillows, and sex couches, and they’re ideal for bedrooms in your house or apartment because they blend into everyday spaces.
Non-discreet pieces, on the other hand, are obviously BDSM furniture, such as cages, spanking benches, an St. Andrew’s Cross, a BDSM chair, or a bondage bench. Because they’re so clearly BDSM, they’re best suited for private BDSM rooms or commercial dungeons.
Useful Accessories
Once you own your first piece of BDSM furniture, you’ll realize quickly that a few basic accessories can go a long way and open up a lot of new possibilities.
Almost all BDSM furniture, aside from sex couches and sex pillows, has anchor points or carabiners where you can attach accessories. Common options that work with these attachment points include ankle and wrist cuffs, chains, and shibari rope. Carabiners are also useful on their own, since they help connect things like chains and wrist cuffs, and a spreader bar can be another great accessory that works well with some furniture setups.
Other add-ons that work well on their own and with BDSM furniture are BDSM collar and leashes, as well as floggers and paddles.
Furniture covers can also be useful if you want to hide BDSM furniture just in case visitors are at your house.
